Beyond the Front Porch concentrates on providing educational field trips to school-aged youth in order to foster and encourage their personal growth through enriching physical and mental opportunities. Events and day trips occur the second Saturday of each month to Georgia, Alabama or Tennessee.

Saturday, January 13  High Museum of Art – $25 ($30 after January 6th deadline to register) 

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we participate in a guided STEAM Tour and Workshop to show evidence of similarities between artists and scientists. Students will explore how artists are creative problem solvers through engaging in the creative design process. Our students will also participate in an hands-on workshop to bring together everything experienced in the tour.

Saturday, February 10 – Birmingham Civil Rights Institute – $25 ($30 after February 3th deadline to register)

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we visit the nation’s largest civil right’s museum which boasts 58000 square feet of archives, galleries, community meeting rooms and exhibit space. The museum depicts the struggles of the American Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s.

Saturday, March 10 – SAM Shortline Railroad – $25 ($30 after March 3th deadline to register)

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we ride in air-conditioned, 1949 vintage train cars, you will travel across Lake Blackshear to Plains and back. Explore President Jimmy Carter’s boyhood farm (Jimmy Carter National Historic Site), go shopping and sample peanut butter treats. At 9:30 am we will board the train at Georgia Veterans State Park, stop in Americus, Plains, Archery and return to Georgia Veterans State Park at 4:40 pm.

Saturday, April 14 – Tennessee Aquarium – $25 ($30 after April 7th deadline to register)

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we visit one of the top-rated aquariums in America that offers a journey through two buildings loaded with things to do and engaging experiences on Chattanooga’s beautiful downtown riverfront. River Journey fascinates visitors with river otters, turtles, alligators, giant catfish and thousands of freshwater wonders. Ocean Journey delights guests with penguins, sharks, butterflies and often scuba divers who interact with guests.

Saturday, May 12 – Atlanta Botanical Gardens – $25 ($30 after May 5th deadline to register)

Join Beyond the Front Porch as our students explore more than 30 acres of breathtaking botanical bliss as they spend the day visiting the Children’s Garden, playing in the Sunflower Fountain, exploring the Venus flytraps in the Soggy Bog and learning about honeybees in the observation hive. They can also walk through the treetops on the Kendeda Canopy Walk and learn about flowers in the Fuqua Orchard Center and new plants in the Sheffield Botanical Library. Students can also discover edibles in the Edible Garden.

Saturday, June 9 – Helen Tubing and Water Park – $25 ($30 after June 2nd deadline to register)

Join Beyond the Front Porch for a day in the sun tubing on a 2 hour trip on the Chattahoochee River through the scenic Alpine Village of Helen, GA. Helen Ga Tubing provides your tube, US Coast Guard approved life preserver, and shuttle service.

Saturday, July 14 – Consolidated Gold Mines – $25 ($30 after July 7th deadline to register)

Join Beyond the Front Porch as head 200 feet underground and over 100 years back in time to experience life as a turn of the century gold miner. Not only will we enjoy the history and guided tour, but we will also learn how to pan for gold and mine for gems.

Saturday, August 11 – US Space & Rocket Center – $25 ($30 after August 4th deadline to register)

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we embark on a daylong adventure designed to introduce visitors to the dramatic history of space exploration, from early spaceflight to the shuttle program and beyond! We will visit the Museum, Shuttle Park, Rocket Park, have access to Public Simulators.

Saturday, September 8 – Zoo Atlanta – $25 ($30 after September 1st deadline to register)

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we tour Zoo Atlanta that houses over 1,500 animals representing more than 220 species. The zoo is home to the nation’s largest zoological collections of gorillas and orangutans and is one of only four zoos in the U.S. currently housing giant pandas.

Saturday, October 13 – Atlanta History Center – $25 ($30 after October 6th deadline to register)

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we give students a tour of the gardens and two historic houses, Swan House and 1860’s Smith Family Farm that sits on 33 acres in the heart of Buckhead that was founded in 1926. They also will allow us to explore Georgia’s past through award-winning exhibitions including the Centennial Olympic Games Museum and the Kenan Research Center.

Saturday, November 10 – National Infantry Museum & Soldier’s Center – $25 ($30 after November 3rd deadline to register)

Join Beyond the Front Porch as we experience an immersive experience featuring over 230 years of Military History located in Columbus, GA just outside of Fort Benning. This 190,000 sq foot museum houses more than 70,000 military artifacts. We will also enjoy an IMAX movie.

Saturday, December 8 – End of Year Celebration (free event)

This is the time of year for us to reflect on the field trip experiences that we have shared with many families during the year. We will also recognize the support of our Transportation Sponsors, Lunch Sponsors, Seat Sponsors, Volunteers and Board of Directors. All attendees will enjoy a catered dinner, music, and entertainment provided by RJ Caricatures and Miss Pickles balloon artist. Then we will reveal the field trip calendar for the following year!
